Developing an Idea. How?
Prior to getting started, it would be helpful to begin by asking what you anticipate to achieve by painting a mural.
Are you seeking to create a casual, relaxed atmosphere?
Is evoking a sense of elegance and sophistication important to you?
What style does your present furniture and decor seem to be telling you?
Knowing the answers to your questions will help you to focus as you search for any reference photos. These may serve as a point of inspiration for your particular tastes and creative direction.
Selecting a Price Point.
Once having decided your direction as to a theme, and possibly a few visual references, it would be recommended to establish a general price point that you are willing to commit.
Why? Custom artwork is not prefabricated.
Your mural is designed especially for you and your budget.
Ex. A tropical landscape theme with a modest budget would consist of a design and layout to reflect such. This same theme could be expanded upon with a whole different approach as to size, detailing and layout.
Price point serves both the client and the artist in their endeavor to establish a middle ground from which to build. To find out more about factors that influence the cost of a mural, click here.
The Consultation
By now, you have decided upon creative direction, reference materials and a price point, and thus are ready for a consultation in your own home. Additional visual material and samples may be provided to supplement and refine your ideas.
Prior to providing a written quotation, I would need to view and discuss the area to be painted, sizing the walls, their accessibility, as well as overall detailing that you would require.
