MARTIN'S TIPS

What Factors Influence the Price of a Mural?

  1. SQUARE FOOTAGE
No absolute fixed costs per square foot can be determined as a fool proof formula in quoting a price. As you will see, many other factors play into your final pricing. However, it is safe to say that the more area involved the costlier your mural becomes.

  2. ACCESS TO THE WALL
Will ladders and scaffolding be required? Is the wall difficult to reach at certain points? Ceilings are typically more costly to produce per square footage.

  3. DETAILING
Your choice of subject matter may require precise, controlled detailing. Machinery, architecture, people and faces tend to be more time consuming to paint as opposed to nature or landscape themes. This will affect the overall cost.

  4. SURFACE PREPARATION
Any surface preparation costs are the sole responsibility of the customer. Nail pops and other imperfections that "displease" you need to be repaired prior to the mural being painted. Additional charges will apply if such need to be repaired at the time for the work to begin.

  5. COOPERATION IN DESIGN PROCESS
Design changes are normally factored into your quotation. However, if such a process develops into prolonged and frequent changes by the client, additional charges will be incurred for such.

How can a Mural be Preserved?

EXTERIOR MURALS
A premium latex clearcoat will be provided at the time of the project. This is designed to expand and contract in weather and temperature changes.

Long-term preservation of a mural outdoors may require maintenance due to direct sun exposure, vandalism, etc. Any such damages can certainly be repaired and restored to its original beauty upon request.

INTERIOR MURALS
Since most murals painted are indoors, these can be protected in a premium latex satin flat finish. In areas where heavier moisture may be present, such as kitchen backsplash murals or bathrooms, the mural can be covered with a harder finish for protection.
